Filling The GAP Society is powered by a dedicated team of professionals with lived experience, rooted in decades of work across advocacy, education, mental health, and nonprofit leadership. Together, we are committed to advancing gender-affirming care and creating safer, more inclusive communities across Nova Scotia.

meet the board
Our board is made up of passionate leaders with experience in education, community development, mental health, and peer support. They have contributed to organizations including the IWK Gender Health Team, The Youth Project, Halifax Pride, and the Canadian 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce. Many bring direct lived experience and have facilitated support groups, developed inclusive policy, and launched mentorship programs.

Emma Stanley (She/Her)

Emma is passionate about inspiring change. She spent 3.5 years working at Simply Good Form Inclusion in various roles including Director of Development and Sr. Facilitator.

Emma was a 2024 Finalist for 'Business Leader of the Year 2024,' with Canada's 2SLGBTQIA+ Chamber of Commerce.
Emma is a queer trans woman who lived and transitioned across several countries and cultures. She had the chance to experience a wide variety of different perspectives and approaches to 2SLGBTQIA+ people. Being a language educator made sure she understands the power of words and language within our culture.

Now focused on inclusive and accessible event strategy, Michelle partners with organizations to design gatherings that prioritize impact, purpose, and belonging. As a board member, she brings a community-centered approach and a strong commitment to supporting those accessing gender-affirming care.

A social scientist by profession with a passion for data, Isaac intertwines their affinity for STEM industries into his work, drawing from a diverse array of personal and professional experiences as a queer, disabled person to support clients ranging from startups, non-profit organizations to large international corporations. Isaac sits on Science Atlantic’s Board as the Board Development Chair & Director and previously sat on the Discovery Centre’s board and was a Research Advisory Committee Member for Canada's 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC). In 2024, Isaac was the recipient of Digital Nova Scotia’s Tech Forward Role Model Award.

Cynthia Sweeney (She/Her)

Cynthia is an EDIA strategist, speaker, and founder of Simply Good Form Inc., a national consultancy specializing in transgender inclusion. She previously served as Chapter Lead of pflag Halifax for six years and has supported over 60 trans and non-binary individuals through legal name and gender marker changes since 2021. Cynthia is also the author of The Pink Balloon, and co-host of the gender-diversity podcasts Hey, Cis! and Trans Canada Stories.
